Mother of E,G, and S. Wife of Dr. J, in need of a nap. Sometimes I feel just like Dorthy except for a little dog I've got three little Munchkins and I definitely want a pair of those ruby red slippers!
I've had it. How do you get a four year old to clean his room. I feel like I'm in a constant power struggle over that piece of land. Right now he is suppose to be getting dressed but he is to busy emptying all his tubs of toys. I need help!
I'm sure you know better than I do, but what I do with Miriam is that she has to put away one "big" toy or set of toys before she can get out another. I had to be really strict with it at first, but now she gets the idea. She's also figured out that if all her toys are out at once, there is no room to play.
So it's blocks OR train set, but not both.
She regresses sometimes when friends come over and dump everything out anyway. But in general, it works pretty well. Good luck!
I'm still enjoying the stage where if someone starts singing the Clean Up song he automatically starts putting things away until the job is done. Is this a mild form of brainwashing? Is it bad if I hope it lasts? But you know that my boy is not an angel... I suppose this is one battle I'm grateful not to have right now...
My cousin Mary swears by it. I haven't tried it with Rachel yet...she (mary) will often put on music and the kids all have to pick up as much as they can before the song ends. They seem to like that.
I just checked out the house fairy and apparently it's not free...which is lame-o. But anyway...my cousin Mary says the song works well enough. ;)
Book three came before book two...thank you library. I briefly debated on waiting but I wanted to know the end of the story...so here we go!

I'm having the same quandary with my own almost four year-old. If you find something that works excellently for you, let me know. We miss you guys!
