I've often wondered the same.
Me too. You know, really, I think the hype about Wicked is the music and show is fun but really, not many have read the book and I hope they don't, not clean at all. I don't know, maybe it's kind of like living vicariously through another. We know we must not be bad but that doesn't stop it from being glamorous sometimes...
I think Mormon women have slightly fanatical tendencies- it is so rare that they find something clean and enjoyable that the word seems to spread like wildfire. I am infuriated with women right now who are obsessed with Twilight and are reading them for the 3rd, 4th, 5th times. There are other great books out there- Twilight is a fun story, but is by NO MEANS great literature. Who cares if it is written by an LDS woman? Let's broaden our horizons a little, people!
As for Wicked, it is definitely a fabulous musical with fun music. That being said, again- there are so many better musicals out there. Like Wicked? Great. Let me tell you about others that are even better. Much more to the stage than Phantom, Wicked and Les Miserables. Oh, and I agree with Jackie. DO NOT READ THE BOOK!!!
Okay so I am really feeling out of the loop. Yes I know about Wicked, but I've never seen it and never read the book since my sis-in-law said it would probably be offensive to us. But the Twilight books? I guess I don't read much other than children's stories, so no surprise there. I guess if I don't do any reading, watching, or listening I can't fall into the hype of other Mormon women--but then I feel pretty clueless to what everyone else is talking about.
Um...vampire book? I love to read and I just couldn't even go there. I cannot understand the obsession on that one at all.
Wicked...I love it. I love the music, and the show is really really great. I do love lots of other broadway shows too though. And honestly, lots of non-Mormons love Wicked too.
